Imagine pulling into an Oklahoma RV park with large, premium spaces, full electric, water, and sewer hookups, and fiberoptic Wi-Fi. It’s pet friendly and quiet. You are free to work your remote job or just relax!
Now, imagine that it’s tucked into the beautiful foothills of the Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma near Broken Bow Lake, and not far from the Arkansas line. If nature is your thing, you are in the right place!
Rest and Relax
Nighttime in southeastern Oklahoma is probably darker than you are used to. The stars are brighter once you leave the cities and the highways behind. Enjoy sitting by the campfire at the community fire pits. Make some new friends – or not.
Quiet time is from 10 pm to 7 am, giving you the opportunity to really relax. Get some sleep or read a book. There’s no pressure and no worries.
You might find that you sleep more deeply without the sounds of traffic outside your window. Frog music, the singing of crickets, and the occasional howl of a coyote are soothing sounds to sleep by.
Wake up when you want and enjoy that first cup of coffee or tea while planning out your day. There are a multitude of possibilities and no schedule to keep.
147 Acres for Hiking
Mountain View RV Park is the perfect setting for long walks in the woods or for a more strenuous hike. It’s a scenic area with beautiful vistas and lots of opportunities for nature photography and possible wildlife encounters.
Look for white-tail deer, bobcats, raccoons, coyotes, armadillos, beavers, chipmunks, squirrels, groundhogs, and skunks, to name a few native species. Oklahoma is a fantastic place for birdwatching, too! You’ll find songbirds, owls, hawks, wild turkeys, and even bald eagles to add to your life list of bird sightings.
Fishing
With private fishing right in the RV park for catch-and-release fun, and many miles of rivers, streams, and lakes nearby, Mountain View RV Park is the perfect retreat for the angler.
At nearby Beavers Bend State Park, you will find trout streams that are stocked year-round for fly fishing. And with over 180 miles of shoreline to fish, Broken Bow Lake is the place for catching bass, crappie, catfish, and other species on rod and reel. You can rent boats and jet skis at the marina and even hire a fishing guide if you like.
Play a Round of Golf at Beaver Bend State Park
Cedar Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72, public course on the shores of Broken Bow Lake. With all the amenities a good golf course should have, Golf Digest Magazine rated it a 4-star course.
Another 18-hole golf course is roughly 25 minutes to the south, at the Idabel Country Club.
Other activities at or near Beavers Bend include miniature golf, tennis, water skiing, zip lining, and even scuba diving! There’s no need to be bored with so many different things to try.
Visit the Nature Center or a Historical Site
Take a nature hike under the direction of a full time naturalist or learn a new skill like campfire cooking or nature arts and crafts. Suitable for all ages, programs at the Nature Center are fun ways to connect with nature and enjoy some low-keyed activities.
As unlikely as it sounds, there’s an African exhibit at the Beavers Bend Wildlife Museum, which is located at the entrance to the park. Daily tours teach about the native wildlife and are suitable for everyone.
The Forest Heritage Center Museum in Broken Bow reveals the importance of forestry and logging in Oklahoma. The artist who painted Smokey the Bear painted 14 dioramas, which are well worth seeing.
Eagletown Choctaw Settlement is an important location on the Trail of Tears and was where the Choctaw Indian language was first written down. Another site devoted to Choctaw history is the Wheelock Mission and Academy at Milterton, which was a girl’s boarding school.
The Museum of the Red River at Idabel is a fantastic free outing that features art and artifacts from around the world. It’s the home of a full-sized cast of the skeleton of Oklahoma’s state dinosaur, the Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. (It kind of looks like a T-rex, with spines along its back.) At 40 feet long and 14 feet tall, it must have been a terrifying sight!
Take a Swing Through Hochatown and Broken Bow
Although it’s a small town, Hochatown has several activities that can keep you entertained. Broken Bow is larger and has even more things to do! The whole family will find something to enjoy.
Beavers Bend Depot and Trail Rides is self-explanatory. Rugaru Adventures features zip-lining for the brave ones in your group.
You can pan for gemstones and more at Beavers Bend Mining Company.
The Hochatown Petting Zoo offers an opportunity to get close to a variety of animals. Have you ever bottle-fed a baby goat? It’s a lot of fun!
There’s the Gutter Chaos Bowling Alley, also self-explanatory. You can race go-karts, rent kayaks, canoes, and all kinds of boats, ATVs, Jeeps, and trail horses from various businesses in the area.
If shopping is your thing, the area has a variety of boutiques, gift shops, antique stores, and homemade sweet shops. And there’s a day spa for relaxing after a hard day at work.
Night Life
You might think that this little corner of Oklahoma would be devoid of evening excitement. You would be mistaken. There are several options for responsible nightlife near the Mountain View RV Park.
Hochatown is the home of the Hochatown Distilling Company, which is adjacent to The Tasing Room Hochatown. The Mountain Fork Brewery is nearby, as are the Knotted Rope Winery and the Hochatown Saloon.
Vojai’s Winery is located in Broken Bow.
